How a Small PTA Team Brings Big Events to Life

At Banks Road Elementary School, school events are more than just dates on a calendar—they’re moments of joy, connection, and lasting memories for students and families. Behind the scenes, it’s the school’s dedicated PTA making it all happen, often with a small team and limited time.

Sara Yontz, PTA treasurer and mom of two students at the school, knows just how much effort goes into each event. Whether it’s the book fair, a winter holiday shop, or a school carnival, the goal is always the same: creating something special for the kids.

When You Need a Village—and a Way to Reach Them

While the PTA board is passionate and hardworking, it’s also small. That means every successful event depends on volunteers stepping in to lend a hand—whether that’s setting up tables, helping during the event, or staying after to clean up.

“Honestly, one of the most challenging parts of organizing our events is finding enough help,” Sara shared.

That’s why having a simple way to connect with the broader school community has made such a difference. With a platform like SignUpGenius, the PTA has been able to clearly share what’s needed and when, so parents and caregivers can jump in and support.

“We use it for all of our events,” says Sara. “We couldn’t get our job done without it.”

Building a Stronger School Community

For Sara, organizing PTA events isn’t just about logistics—it’s about bringing people together. Each volunteer who signs up helps create something meaningful for the kids.

“We need the help of volunteers and community members to run the events we have with the PTA, she explained. “And we couldn’t do that without a place to say: here’s what we need, here’s when we need it, and here’s how many people we need.”

Thanks to the willingness of parents and community members—and tools that make organizing easier—Banks Road Elementary continues to host events that bring smiles to students’ faces.

And for Sara and the PTA team, that’s what it’s all about.
