Ankeny High School Organizes Volunteers and Plans After Prom with SignUpGenius

What happens after the music fades and the dancing feet stop? The party continues!

After prom, an all-night event organized by parents and school leaders who want to provide a fun and safe post-prom option for students, has become just as popular as prom itself.

The After Prom Committee at Ankeny High School in Ankeny, Iowa, used SignUpGenius to organize a big night for their students.

Volunteer Coordinator Teresa Farrell created online sign up sheets to organize nearly 200 parent volunteers for after prom festivities. Through efficient scheduling and easy-to-use volunteer management, the committee ensured more than 600 students were safe — and had a night to remember.

"With almost 200 volunteer positions that needed to be filled, sign ups were easy to create and send out to parents of our high school," Farrell said. "SignUpGenius was a fabulous tool for us to manage volunteers for a fun and safe night."

Having used SignUpGenius for other volunteer opportunities, Farrell found many new useful features for organizing a much larger committee. She enjoyed automatic email reminders, as well as sharing her own sign up link via email, Facebook and Twitter. Sharing on social media was integral for her to get the word out.

"I appreciate that volunteers don't have to create an account when they sign up," Farrell said. "One new feature I took advantage of was the reports feature. Downloading the names into an Excel spreadsheet allowed me to easily print nametags and check in volunteers as they arrived."
